Garden City sure has some hidden gems.
As you may know, my parents drove with me from Seattle to Boise. After we got all the boxes moved into a storage unit, we were quite thirsty so we decided to go on a mini Brew Tour through Garden City. Let me tell you… we were not let down!
First stop: Bella Brewing (Located at 4340 W. Chinden Blvd.)
This is a small and quaint brewery with big and bold beers. They currently have 10 of their beers on tap. The two that were stand out were: Maholo Melon & Blu Sno.
Maholo Melon (4.2% AVB) is a Watermelon Wheat. This beer was so good I ended up buying some and taking it home with me! While it is still quite cold out, this is going to be a good summer beer.
Blu Sno (8.5% AVB) is a White Chocolate Blueberry Porter. I am a lover of all dark beers. This was more different than any porter I have ever had with just a hint of blueberry that made this beer perfection.
Second stop: Meriwether Cider (Located at 5242 Chinden Blvd.)
We made this stop for my mom who does not drink beer, but loves cider. Who doesn’t!? This is a small, family owned taproom with friendly service. They really make you feel like part of the family. Oh, and did I mention, dog friendly? This place exceeded any expectations. With 16 ciders on tap, you are sure to find one, two, or sixteen that you love!
Hop Shot- Hopped Cider (6.9% ABV) is a hoppy cider that is to die for. If you love that hoppy taste from beer, still want a gluten free oprion, wits just enough balancing sweetness, this is your drink. This cider is so fresh and crisp and this also made it’s way back home with me!
Next stop: Barbarian Brewing (Located at 5270 W. Chinden Blvd.)
This spot is about a minuets walk from Meriwether Cider which was great! It’s very industrial with lots of wood and iron… of course it is, it’s called Barbarian brewing! While it is a somewhat small brewery, their menu is not with a total of 15 beers on tap!
Beta Wolf 2.0 (6.5% ABV) is a sour IPA with hints of Mango and Passion Fruit. YES PLEASE. You’ll come to find out that I am a sucker for sour beers. There is nothing more refreshing than drinking an ice cold sour beer on a hot summer day (or in January if you’re me). This beer has the perfect balance between a hoppy flavor, the sweetness of the fruit, and the tartness that makes it sour.
Grand finale: Powderhaus Brewing Company (Located at 9719 W. Chinden Blvd.)
This is the biggest brewery in Garden City with a ton of tables and seating as well as a big area in the back where they were holding a corn-hole tournament! This place is kid friendly and has a food truck outside when you get the drunchies (drunk munchies).
Stouts Honor (10% ABV) is an Imperial Stout that was what a stout should be; Smooth & Creamy. Next time, I’d love to try more we will definitely be making another Garden City run once the sun comes out.
Well, that’s it for the Garden City Brew Tour! Thanks for following along with me as I drink my way though Idaho. It is time for the next adventure that awaits this weekend: Bend, OR!
